“And you? When will you begin that long journey into yourself?” – Rumi
Spring is upon us. And as we declutter our bodies and homes, we have an opportunity to take a look at our daily routines and renew our self care rituals. How can we create more beauty, peace and balance in our lives?
There are several plant allies that can be added to your everyday experience to enhance your greater well being. What does it mean to have a plant ally? A plant ally is an herb that can be called upon when you are in need of support – physically, emotionally or mentally. Daily herbal intake through teas and tonics can create balance through the season and support the emotional body. Rose, Passionflower, Holy Basil and Ashwagandha are a handful of some herbal additions that can help ease tension in the body and mind. EZ Herbs Rose Tincture, by local herbalist Ellen Zimmerman, is a delicious way to add a little heartwarming herb medicine to your morning smoothie or nighttime elixir. Ellen’s Passionflower Tincture can help to ease racing thoughts before bed and help with some restorative Zzz’s. New Chapter’s Holy Basil is a great balancer for life’s ups and downs. Gaia Herb’s Ashwagandha can help reduce stress hormones like cortisol and have an uplifting and strengthening effect on the body.
Herbs in the form of essential oils are a lavish way to upgrade your self-care routine. DoTerra hosts a line of fabulous blends, notably Balance (for a grounding, woody aroma) and Serenity (a warm, floral mixture) as well as simple Lavender (powdery, floral, light). Draw yourself a much-needed bath at least once a week. Add a cup of epsom salts and 5-10 drops of your selected essential oil. Melt away your stresses with these deliciously calming scents and soak in muscle relaxing magnesium through your bath salts. Diffusing these oils in your bedroom with an at home diffuser, like DoTerra’s Petal Diffuser or Young Living’s UltraSonic, can create a space of luxury in a simple way.
EZ Herbs Perfect Face Cream is a delight to freshen and hydrate your skin after a warm bath. This is an act of enhancing beauty in your life. The oils of almond, apricot and Vitamin E create an exquisite blend mixed with Rose, Aloe and Lavender. Massaging oils such as sesame, coconut or jojoba, topically on your face and body reinforce self-love and can help you create a kinder relationship with your body.
Flower Essences are little gifts from the plant kingdom that work on the emotional body – Walnut, White Chestnut, Larch and Rescue Remedy are some great essences to start working with. Bach Flower Rescue Remedy can be utilized in a delicious berry lozenge, tincture or spray form. This is great to use anytime ease and de-stressing are needed. Walnut is a nice choice for transitional periods and helping to make changes. Larch is said to increase confidence. It can be used for social anxieties, before presentations or given to kiddos before school. White Chestnut is a classic formula for excess worrying and thoughts that seem to go ‘round and ‘round. A very easy way to start incorporating flower essences is in your morning cup of tea or an iced tea sipped throughout the day. Tip: Spring Dragon Longevity Tea makes for a gorgeous hot or iced tea. You can add a handful of goji berries (the happy berry) and your herbal tincture with a flower essence of choice. This blend enhances youth and adds an immune boosting component to your day-to-day.
Self-care rituals are a radical act of self-love. I hope you feel inspired to begin that long journey into yourself.
