One of the most exciting discoveries in the health food industry this year has been bulletproof coffee. Bulletproof coffee is the American spin on Tibetan traditional yak butter tea which provides the body with good fats while boosting energy and supporting optimal brain function. The American diet has become increasingly deficient in good fats over the past decade due to governmental advice pushing fat-free and low-fat diets. The truth is that our bodies need good fats to properly function and bulletproof coffee offers a way to get said fats first thing in the morning with our cup of joe. It’s the easiest way to support mental function without much hassle or money!
Ingredients:
- 2.5 tbsps organic coffee bean grounds per 8oz cup
- 1-2 tbsps MCT (medium chain triglyceride) oil
- 2 tbs unsalted grass-fed ghee or unsalted grass-fed butter (for a dairy-free option, try walnuts, pecans, cashews, or even avocado!)
Directions:
1. Brew coffee.
2. Blend coffee, MCT oil, and grass-fed ghee or butter in a blender for 20-30 seconds or until the mixture is light and frothy with the appearance of a latte.
3. Sweeten to taste. Enjoy!
Using organic coffee beans are vitally important as they have a much lower toxicity than your average coffee bean. The MCT oil is derived from coconut oil which helps fuel brain cells, support metabolism and burn fat! It is also crucial to use unsalted grass-fed ghee or butter as regular butter does not contain the same fat composition, thereby rendering it ineffective.
