The Importance of Emotional Wellbeing

If you’re looking for new ways to support your emotional health, quiet your mind, and manage stress, this article is for you. I’ll be outlining how to use homeopathic remedies to support and calm emotions during times of stress.

In general, the physical body tends to get our attention, while emotional balance can sometimes fall by the wayside. We don’t always recognize (especially in the moment) how much our mind and emotions can impact our physical health and vice versa.

Suppressed, unprocessed emotions can drain vital energy, interfere with digestion, cause fatigue, and impair our immune system, making us more vulnerable to colds and other viruses.

Since homeopathic medicine supports the whole person—mind-body-spirit, remedies used to support emotional balance can also have positive physical effects. Appropriate and well-matched remedies can offer much needed support, sometimes very quickly.

How Homeopathy Can Help You Feel Better

Feelings are simply vibrations in the body. They’re like clouds passing by if we can observe them and allow them to roll through. Avoiding or resisting emotions, however, is the very thing that often leads to more discomfort. Homeopathic remedies provide a way to ease the intensity of feelings like sadness or anxiety so that we can process what we’re feeling with awareness and grace.

Homeopathy can neutralize an unpleasant emotion in a matter of seconds, but the best part is that it does not suppress or blunt what we’re feeling. Instead, homeopathic remedies help create a shift in perspective that can allow us to better process our experiences.

Homeopathic remedies are non-toxic and safe for children, infants, pregnant women, elderly individuals, and pets. I’ve seen children (including my own) go from an all-out meltdown to smiling and calm in less than a minute. I was also very grateful for homeopathy last year when my beloved elderly dog was transitioning. Homeopathy eased her pain and calmed her anxiety–and mine. I was able to cuddle with her and enjoy her last days in a way that would not have been possible without homeopathy. That for me, personally, was a wonderful blessing.

Those little white pills may look insignificant, but the right remedy used at the right time is positively powerful. Many people describe homeopathy as feeling magical. It can help us get more in tune with the energetic part of our being—a very important part! Our physical body so often takes precedence, but we are so much more than the physical.

Choosing the Correct Potency

Common remedies are available in a variety of potencies. For acute emotional support, a 30c or 200c potency is typically best. The more sudden and intense the experience, the more likely a 200c potency is indicated. For ongoing stress lasting more than a couple of weeks, a lower potency such as a 6X or 30c would be best to start with. If the potency you’re using eventually stops working, increase to the next higher potency to reactivate its healing potential.

Remedies That Support Emotional Balance

Following are six common remedies that help with fear, anxiety, sadness, grief, anger, and overwhelm. It’s important to note that self-care homeopathy is best used for acute emotional states, not chronic, ongoing issues or significant trauma. My hope is that the ideas and information provided here will help empower you and support you through the ups and downs of daily life and serve as a wonderful adjunct to deeper healing when needed.

·       Aconite – Aconite is for shock, sudden upset, or panic. It’s an excellent remedy for children who wake up in the night scared by a nightmare. It’s the first remedy to use after an accident, injury, flood or any weather-related disaster. The person needing Aconite may have many fears including fear of crowds, narrow spaces, outdoors, and fear of losing control.

·       Arg nit – This remedy covers many types of fears including fear of being late, fear of closed spaces, heights, or flying on airplanes; fear of robbers; fear of failure (so much so that the person just won’t try). If you’re dreading an upcoming ordeal, event, or test, Arg-nit can calm the emotional storm. It helps with anticipation anxiety and can even calm diarrhea that is caused from nervousness.

·       Arsenicum album – Arsenicum is often prescribed for the perfectionist—the person afraid of not being perfect. It also supports fears of disease, poverty, death, and fears for family. It’s a good support for someone who is nervous and restless, and obsessed with order and cleanliness. The person needing Arsenicum often feels chilled and likes to sit by the fire or in a warm room.

·       Ignatia – This is an excellent remedy for disappointment, loss, shame, anger and worry. It helps soothe and settle an aching heart. It may be called for when experiencing the following symptoms: sighing, sobbing, quivering lips, and weeping. It’s an outstanding remedy for adults or children when there is loss or perceived loss—a friend moving away, the loss or death of a pet, the loss of a favorite toy, or the loss of a job.

·       Natrum mur – Also supports loss and grief, but is indicated more for the person who is inclined to hide their emotions or is reluctant to feel them. The person needing Nat-mur may want to be alone and have trouble expressing how they’re feeling.

·       Staphysagria – this remedy helps with anger. Use Staphysagria 30c if you are feeling angry but holding it in or having a hard time expressing your feelings. It also works well to restore balance if you have been on the receiving end of someone else’s anger, rude behavior, or insults. It’s a helpful remedy to give to young children, especially for older siblings who may be impatient with or unkind to younger brothers or sisters.

If you try a remedy and don’t see the response you’re looking for, go back to the drawing board. Don’t be afraid to try a different remedy. It can take some practice to get the hang of matching symptoms with the best remedy or combination of remedies. In my homeopathy practice, I provide a lot of information as well as guidance for my clients as my goal is to empower them with knowledge and help them become self-sufficient.

Deep, Long-Lasting Emotional Healing

Homeopathy is very supportive, as well, to a deeper healing process. Deep healing is a process that takes time and focus. Truly getting to the root of longstanding issues and resolving trauma is possible and homeopathy can be a very helpful and supportive therapy to that end.

If you have chronic, longstanding emotional challenges or deep trauma, please seek the support of a qualified practitioner. Homeopathy often proves an excellent tool to use alongside deeper work and can support a variety of healing modalities such as therapy/counseling, energy work, EMDR, and other forms of mental-emotional healing.

For individuals seeking deep, inner healing, I also offer shamanic-style journey sessions as part of my practice. These intuitive, soul-healing sessions support a person’s ability to get to the root of stubborn issues such as physical health challenges that don’t respond to traditional or natural medicine, relationship issues, long-standing anxiety, physical illness as a result of trauma, and even parenting challenges. Homeopathy as a Tool of Self-Empowerment, Some Final Thoughts

When embraced with mindfulness, homeopathy can be a powerful ally in our journey of self-discovery and healing. Its energetic nature has the remarkable ability to elevate our emotional frequency, neutralizing discomfort without suppressing or numbing our experiences. Homeopathy encourages us to stay present, anchored in the moment, where true healing can unfold. When we approach our journey with patience and self-compassion, we create fertile ground for our inner healer to blossom. Awakening this innate capacity instills a sense of confidence that is, in itself, profoundly healing! Each of us possesses this inner wellspring of healing potential; often, we simply need some guidance and a bit of practice to unlock its gifts.
