Founded in Elgin, TX by Rupert Isaacson in 2007, Horse Boy Foundation is a non-profit organization whose mission includes providing free equestrian therapy services to families of autism. The foundation was created when Rupert first took his son Rowan into the saddle. While on their Quarter Horse mare, Betsy, Rupert found that his sons’ obsessive behaviors simply fell away as they rode. Rowan even learned to speak on Betsy’s back. Documenting his son’s accomplishments, Rupert’s bestselling book, The Horse Boy, later hit the big screen. The film, also called The Horse Boy, received recognition as Winner SXSW Audience Award 2009, Official Selection Sundance 2009 and Official Selection SILVERDOCS AFI/Discovery Channel Documentary Festival. Together, The Horse Boy Foundation and the Horse Boy Music Fest committee are combining efforts to make equine therapy available to more families.
